R7 Employee Spotlight

Region 7 ESC Employee Spotlight

At Region 7 ESC, we're proud to shine a light on the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to making a difference in education. Our biweekly Employee Spotlight highlights team members whose passion and commitment help shape the future of our students. Through their hard work and expertise, they support both teachers and students across the region. This week, we're excited to introduce three standout employees from our Head Start Department who exemplify what it means to lead with heart.

Kellie Camp

R7 Employee Spotlight Kellie Camp

Kellie works in the Head Start Department and has been in education for 27 years.

"My decision to pursue a career in education came from a desire to make a difference in the lives of children. I believe that every child deserves a strong foundation for their future, and being part of that journey is both a privilege and a responsibility that is important to me. Children are full of potential, and helping them unlock it by building their confidence, curiosity, and sense of wonder is so very rewarding. I came to Region 7 for the opportunity to support other teachers. I want to help our current and future teachers create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn."

Jana Castaneda

R7 Employee Spotlight Jana Castaneda

Jana works in the Head Start Department and has been in education for 12 years.

"I love to help people. It just gives you such an awesome feeling. It makes me feel good to know that I'm making a difference in these babies' lives and getting them the help they need to be better."

Carrie Moro

R7 Employee Spotlight Carrie Moro

Carrie works in the Head Start Department and has served many years as a volunteer, 2 as a substitute, and 17 as a full-time employee.

"I initially chose a college pathway with the thought that I enjoyed working with numbers and didn't want to teach, which led me to accounting, management, and marketing. As a working parent, I volunteered many hours in the school system and participated in various committees. After several years working in the corporate sector, I felt a calling to teach. Returning to school for another degree wasn't feasible. After 9/11, my company, like many others, began cutting positions, which lasted for several years, and eventually, mine was cut, too.

I quickly went to work for a competitor and started substitute teaching on my off days in 2005. A principal I worked with informed me about alternative certification and encouraged me to become a certified teacher. In 2007, I began my educational career as a middle school math teacher in Irving, Texas, under one of the most inspiring principals I know. She had immense faith in me, assigning me four preps during my first year. By 2010, I had completed my Master's in Educational Leadership.

Five or six years ago, I decided to reconnect with my passion for numbers and position myself for a potential opportunity in School Finance. I was accepted into the TASBO Emerging Leaders Program and continued my professional development to obtain my RTSBA certification. At the district level, the incredible support and friendships I gained through Federal Programs and GT led me to Region 7 ESC. I knew this was where I wanted to be, and here I am, feeling immensely grateful and blessed, still able to assist in student growth, albeit from a distance!"
