Kilgore, Texas – Region 7 Education Service Center proudly celebrated seven exceptional educators across the region at a pinning ceremony on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 . Christina Smith, of Center ISD, Crystal Merritt of Overton ISD, Jenni Griffith of Mt. Enterprise ISD, Sonya Lee, Lauren Kirk, Penni Cross, and Sarah Hunnicutt, all of Henderson ISD, achieved their National Board Certification in December 2024- a recognition for meeting the highest standards for teaching.
“These new National Board Certified Teachers will continue to change the way their students learn, and their proven ability to be the best teachers they can be will have a ripple effect on their schools and communities across Region 7 for years to come,” said Peggy Brookins, NBCT, president and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
The certification process is based on high and rigorous standards that evaluate teaching practice through performance-based assessments. The ultimate result is improved performance and achievement for students. Teachers who choose to participate in this voluntary certification program document their practices through rigorous reflection and analysis, and challenge themselves to improve their teaching skills, which in turn benefits their schools and their community.
